What are my options?

If your DPF warning light or Anti-Pollution warning is on, please do not ignore it (typical dash warning symbols below). Get professional advice, consider your options carefully and attend to the problem. Leaving it will cause unexpected problems like sudden breakdowns and inevitably cost you much more in additional repair bills. It can also be dangerous.

By the time your DPF warning lights are visible, your DPF will already be significantly blocked so a “blast down the motorway” or using a DPF cleaning fuel additive is not likely to cure the problem, in fact you may do more harm to your engine. These solutions work better as preventative maintenance. So at this stage realistically you have the following options:-

delphi 150DPF Regeneration – We use specialist electronic tools to run a Static Regeneration process. This is in fact forcing the vehicle to perform the regeneration process which it should have been doing automatically but may have failed due to the usage of the vehicle or due to component or system failure. We also carry out a diagnostic check to assess the problem. Depending on circumstances this may or may not cure the problem, we will advise you of our opinion in advance.

DPF Cleaning / Reconditioning – We use professional chemical treatments to clean your existing DPF and in some circumstances we may need to recondition the DPF unit using an ISO14001 approved process returning your DPF to almost its original efficiency. We will carry out diagnostic checks, remove the DPF unit where necessary, clean or recondition the unit and refit it, then reset the ECU and clear the warning lights. This is the most popular and cost effective solution.

Flash-Cleaner-Machine GreenDPF Flash Cleaning – We use professional chemical treatments to clean your existing DPF and in some circumstances we may need to recondition the DPF unit using an ISO14001 approved process returning your DPF to almost its original efficiency. We will carry out diagnostic checks, remove the DPF unit where necessary, clean or recondition the unit and refit it, then reset the ECU and clear the warning lights. This is the most popular and cost effective solution.

New DPFDPF Replacement – We replace the DPF unit with a high quality replacement unit but at a fraction of the main dealer cost. It is very important to note that there are many cheap DPF units for sale that do not function properly because they do not have the expensive catalyst coating, using this type of unit is false economy as they can block up again within 2 weeks and the guarantees will not cover labour or recovery costs! We use British made, certified products with catalyst coating that have been tried and tested to perform well over time. We will carry out diagnostic checks, replace the DPF unit, recalibrate the ECU and reset the warning lights. Prices of DPF units vary for each vehicle, please enquire.

DPF_light bigDPF Removal – We can remove the DPF system from your vehicle and reset it to operate without a DPF meaning you will not have any DPF blockage problems in future. We carry out diagnostic checks, remove the DPF unit and carry out the modifications, refit the modified unit, recalibrate the ECU and reset the warning lights. On completion there is no visible change to your vehicle and no excessive smoke, the DPF unit remains in place and looks no different which means our solution is reversible so you can refit a new DPF again in future if you wish. We also offer the option to add a Custom Remap at the same time to improve fuel economy and performance, ask about our special combined remap offer prices. This solution is very effective but not suitable for everyone, please call us to discuss suitability.

From February 2014 the UK MOT test includes a visual check for the presence of a DPF if it was fitted as standard equipment.

The ideal DPF solution for you depends on your circumstances e.g. type, condition and usage of your vehicle, how long you intend to keep the vehicle and your budget. Each option has its own merits and you should also bear in mind other implications like traffic law, vehicle warranties and insurance etc. If you are unclear, please ask and we will be happy to discuss all the options with you.
